17.10 Presenting Analytics Results


Analysts will often be required to work with stakeholders who come from a mixture of technical and non-technical backgrounds. Therefore it is important for the analyst to present their analysis in plain English, free from technical jargon, cliches, unnecessary words, and ambiguity so that the results are not misunderstood or not understood at all!

Example 1:

Original

Tik Tok Influencer A was more likely than Influencer B to attract more likes. A significant proportion of viewers were more likely to repost videos published by Influencer A compared to Influencer B.

Plain English

Tik Tok Influencer A is more likely than Influencer B to attract more likes and reposts.

Example 2:

Original

After collecting height measurements for all 16 year olds in School A, we found that the  interquartile range of heights fell between 155cm and 170cm.

Plain English

Half of all 16 year olds in School A have a height of between 155cm and 170cm.

Amateurs may think that using fancy expressions demonstrates the depth of a person’s knowledge.  In fact, the reality is quite the opposite.  Being able to deliver a result in a clear, straightforward way is the surest way to indicate to your audience that you have mastered the material.
